Meeting Minutes

09/06/07

  • We reviewed the evaluation forms from the July open house. Overall, the open house was a great success but a few people mentioned the overwhelming amount of information. We thought having a Pre-Conference talk for 15-30 minutes before the start of the open house might be a good idea. This would give people an idea of what to expect and an opportunity to get a brief overview of the technologies being offered.

  • We wanted this open house to address more of the "this is how I can use this technology". We felt people were really excited about the things we were showing but were unsure about the practicality and application. We thought the pre-conference talk, our presentations, and the lab work could focus more on this.

  • We discussed NEW technologies to present and thought it might be a good idea to offer a variety of levels. We also wanted to continue using the lab for hands-on experience. We didn't get direct feedback from the last open house but the lab look crowded and it seemed like people were trying our challenges.

  • We brought up continuing the idea of the Technology Challenge. This is a project we would like to pick up after the next open-house but we were thinking about workshops we would offer that could be part of the challenge.

  • We also set the meeting calendar until December. The dates are listed under the Meeting section and are not written in stone!

10/11/07

  • We introduced our newest member, Ryan McCloskey, from Bernards Township Library. Thanks to Ryan, we brought up publicizing this committee again. We revisited taking the meeting on the road and would like to have December's meeting in Clifton if they agree to this. Leigh and Kurt will look into Ramapo and WPU but parking is usually an issue. Leigh will send an email to the list-serv inviting anyone interested to join and we will ask Karen to solicit on the Tech Committee page. Also, we agreed to putting a little blurb at the bottom of our handouts for the Open House inviting interested people. If anyone has some "catchy" little phrase or way of saying this, could you please post it here! thanks

  • We decided on the format for this open house. We will have our usual tables introducing the technologies and discussing/showing how they are useful for our guest. Also, we agreed to have a Showcase/Show & Tell on the half hour throughout the day. This will give people a hands-on look at the technologies we are showing and others.

  • We decided the lab will be open for use but on a more informal basis. The feedback on lab use during the last open house suggested there was much confussion. Those of us who want to share interesting webpages regarding our topics will use the whiteboard outside the lab and post urls and such for people to visit.

  • Please send Mary the informtion from your handout so she can make ONE BIG HANDOUT of the handouts. She needs this info by NOVEMBER 5th

  • If you want Ellen to copy your handouts, send them to her NO LATER THAN: NOVEMBER 16. If you make your own copies, 60 is usually appropriate. We cannot make copies at Parsippany so please have them ready ahead of time.
